Last information for breeder and vendors 2024
On 17 August 2024, the time has come again: the Derby Auction 2024 will take place! You will find the most important information here. Please note the changed rules regarding horses from other EU member states.
Please note that the following original certificates of origin and health certificates must be available for each horse on arrival:
- for horses of domestic origin: an official veterinary certificate (Annex 1); the certificate must not be older than 10 (in words “ten”) days, i.e. dated no earlier than 7 August 2024; the certificate is issued by the veterinary authority responsible for the place of origin of the animals.
for horses from other EU Member States: a veterinary certificate in accordance with the model in the Implementing Regulation (Annex II or Annex III); the animal must be clinically examined within 48 hours prior to dispatch and found to be free of clinical signs of disease. The certificate is issued by the authority responsible for the place of origin of the animals, which must also report the movement of the horses electronically via TRACES NT. ATTENTION: Every horse travelling from abroad, i.e. registered via TRACES, requires its OWN certificate. Please follow the instructions of the Friedrich-Löffler-Institute (FLI): https://traces.fli.de/Pages/FAQs/04_001.html
As a general rule: Horses in a transport vehicle are considered an epidemic unit. This means that in the case of joint transport of auction horses and starters, ALL horses in the transport vehicle must arrive with a health certificate.
If you have any questions regarding the official veterinary certificates or the health certificate, please contact the veterinary authority responsible for you, Bezirksamt Tempelhof-Schöneberg, Ordnungsamt — Fachbereich Veterinär- und Lebensmittelaufaufsicht, 10820 Berlin (postal address), e‑mail: vetleb@ba-ts.berlin.de, phone: +49 (30) 90277 — 7371.
Please note that the following documents must be available for each horse on arrival:
- Foal licence in original (nationals)
- Equine passport in original
- Notice of change of ownership signed and in the original
We cannot and will not accept the horse:
- if not all required documents are available or
- the health condition of the horse precludes its inclusion in the auction lot.
- the necessary vaccinations for your yearlings are not available. These can be found in the implementation regulations for immunisation against equine influenza and equine herpes virus infections in accordance with § 28 TRO. Horses participating in the auction must be immunised! In addition, immunisation against tetanus and West Nile virus is strongly recommended.
When and where do the horses have to arrive at the event site?
- The box tents are located near the HVT in the stable area of the Berlin-Mariendorf trotting track.
- The boxes will be available from Friday, 16 August 2024 8:00 am.
- All horses offered must be stabled in the stalls provided in the stall tent between 08:00 and 18:00 on 16 August 2024. The inspection by the Berlin Tempelhof-Schöneberg Veterinary Office is expected to take place on 17 August 2024, 9:00 am.
- Concentrated feed, feed troughs, horse halter, grooming kit etc. are to be brought by the provider. Hay and straw / shavings are provided by us.
- We will provide a ring lock with a key for each box (the second key remains with us). You will receive these in the auction office near the box tents when you register the horses. We expressly point out that the boxes must always be locked if they cannot be supervised by the vendor. It must be ensured that no horse can leave its stall without authorisation.
Please remember to only transport horses in hot weather in the early hours of the morning — preferably at night.
On site:
- The seller undertakes: to provide his own suitable personnel to guard and prepare the horse(s) from the time of stabling until the end of the auction.
- The seller shall ensure: before the start of the auction that the horse(s) is/are supplied by 12:00 noon on the day following the auction.
- After return of the horse(s) from the auction ring: the responsibility for the horse is transferred to the buyer. In the event of a successful sale, the organiser will take over the stall keys on return from the auction ring.
- The seller hands over the box key: only to the organiser, not to the buyer. The procurement of halters or bridles is the responsibility of the seller
Please ensure that your horses’ exercise needs are met for several hours (see also the guidelines for assessing horse husbandry from an animal welfare perspective, section 2.1.2). We offer space for guided exercise in the centre of the stall tents, in the so-called presentation ring. If exceptionally high temperatures prevail on the day of the auction, please also consider cooling measures such as hosing down the legs and chest and regularly offering water and adding electrolyte supplements to compensate for losses through sweat when looking after the horses.
We wish you a safe journey and the success you hope for!
